Upstate New York: wearing mittens and scraping frost off the windsheild in May


as I was driving, I noticed a really pretty frost pattern on the rear window

these are weeds of some sort, but I mow around them and let them stray into the lawn and into my flower garden

spring firsts

first crocus blossoms!

first laundry drying outdoors this year...

(okay, so it doesn't show up too well.. it's the tiny specks of color visible beyond the barn..)

blue skies are back

seems to be a theme lately, pictures snapped from behind the windshield -- sunrise, as we pulled out of our driveway this morning:

of course the day started with a heart-shaped chunk of firewood...

you can barely make out the thermometer in the upper left corner - it read below 0°F this morning

blankets strewn over a laundry drying rack to create a makeshift "sleeping tent" for Sparky on these cold nights -- yes, he is in there, curled up under the blue sleeping bag:

I couldn't get my camera out quickly enough to capture this event in entirety: late in the afternoon, fast-moving dark beige-grey clouds covered the sky and brought a sudden cloudburst with heavy rain - but within 5 minutes they had moved on and the sun returned from the west, highlighting rain-glistened tips of bright yellow walnut leaves against the distant backdrop of grey; and creating a stunning double rainbow that stretched over the horizon with 2 complete arcs perfectly framing our view of HiTor, each earth-bound end seeming to emerge from hillsides of glorious autumn color - as usual, my pictures do not do it justice
